New-CFIA has approved the Agriculture and Food Laboratory (AFL) to Test for Trichinella

We are pleased to announce that we have been approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to test for Trichinella in pork for export.

The Agriculture and Food Laboratory has successfully completed the research project “OAF-2019-100464 - Evaluation of a High Throughput CRISPR Sequence-Based Method for Identification of Multiple Salmonella Serovars in a Sample from Poultry Production Environments”.

Canada Day Hours at the AFL

The Agriculture and Food Laboratory (AFL) will be closed for Canada Day, on Friday, July 1st, 2022. Sample Reception will be open to accept samples on Saturday, July 2nd from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Exciting News-Sample Reception to be Open on Saturdays Beginning April 30th

Beginning Saturday, April 30, 2022, Sample Reception at the AFL will be open on Saturdays to accept samples from Purolator or in person drop-off from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. Microbiology samples received on Saturdays will be set up the same day.  All other samples will be accepted and logged into our system but set up at the beginning of the work week when the AFL resumes normal operating hours. This means for all other labs, the turnaround time will begin at the beginning of the work week. 

University of Guelph Biologists Use eDNA to Assess Potential Nuclear Waste Sites

The AFL is proud to support this project in collaboration with Dr. Robert Hanner's team, University of Guelph and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, by analyzing the samples under the ISO 17025 accredited facility to ensure high quality results.
